Do It At Home!
Paper Microscope Instructions
Materials:
Materials:
- Note cards(3-4)
- Plexiglass sphere (3/8" is a good size, the smaller the bead the more zoomed in it is, but also the easier to lose and the harder to look through...)
- Tape
- Scissors
- A pencil
- Your imagination!
Step 1:
Sketch or think about your idea/design for your microscope: Do you want the lens to focus (the plexiglass bead to move back and forth closer to the slide)? Do you want to be able to move the lens around? How would you want your microscope to look; do you want decorations on it? Also - how are you going to hold the plexiglass bead in place? You can even experiment with placing a tiny light underneath the specimen that you can turn off and on. (Copper tape, tiny LED lights, and small 3V batteries are great for this).
Step 2:
Make it! Use the note cards and scissors to create your design!
Step 3:
Make a slide for your microscope! Place a specimen between two pieces of tape. You can use part of a note card to create the outer part of the slide. The slide can be made however you want.
Step 4:
Use it! Go for a hike and take a look at the nature around you! By simply holding the microscope to a light source, you can see a detailed microscopic view through the plexiglass bead! You can also hold a smartphone camera to the bead and take amazing pictures of your view.
